![]() Henry Hensche "Paintings are to teach man to see the glory of human visual existence." |
Henche's impressionist works span from the 1930's to the 90's. He was active with teaching from 1928, first as an assistant, and then continuing to teach in Provincetown as the lead instructor from the 30's till his retirement in late 80's. His style and mastery as a painter and teacher has inspired many painters and his style and approach has inspired a new Cape School of Art to open in Provincetown in 2010.
Robert Brown, in a 1971 interview for the Archives of American Art: For him (Hensche), art was, "... the arrangement of truth". (Charles) Hawthorne pointed the way to a greater realization of color in realistic painting, yet it was for his student, Henry Hensche, to bring to fruition a complete transition from tone-based painting, to paintings revealing the full spectrum of color. |
